SR200 fire suppression system uses Heptafluoropropane, more commonly known as HFC-227ea, which is a colourless and odourless gas fire extinguishing agent that can be liquified and stored at low pressure. HFC-227ea is used worldwide in fire suppression systems and is a clean agent as regulated by NFPA 2001: Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems.

HFC-227ea was a replacement for Halon 1301 as it has no secondary pollution and has high fire extinguishing performance. Suitable for extinguishing Class A, B and C fires, it has no corrosion and contamination towards electrical appliances and electronic equipment, which makes it ideally suited for the protection of a wide range of equipment and important places such as data centres, computer rooms, engine room, substations and etc.

SR200 fire suppression system is internationally certified by VdS, UL Listed and FM approved, and locally approved by SGP and Bomba. SR200 system design is also in accordance with NFPA 2001 standards, and supported by either Jensen Hughes and VdS hydraulic calculations.

How does SR200 work?
SR200 fire suppression system is based on a total flooding principle, whereby the protected room is completely flooded with HFC-227ea agent to suppress the fire at infancy stage through physical (absorbs heat from surrounding area) and chemical mechanisms (prevents reaction that leads to combustion). The quantity of HFC-227ea required to adequate extinguish the fire is determined by the design concentration based on the room volume and class of fire.

What are the pros and cons of SR200?

Pros:
HFC-227ea is recognised as a clean agent and is safe for occupied areas. It has limited downtime as no residue post-discharge, low toxicity, and does not conduct electricity. It has high fire extinguishing efficient, and thus SR200 can be used for a wide-range of applications as it does not damage the protected assets.

Cons:
Transmission of agent distance is short which is not suitable for rooms with long distance and larger height differences. Due to high global warming potential value of 3220, HFC-227ea is included in the list of controlled items under the Kigali amendment, which aims to reduced global consumption by 80% over the next few decades.
